The Magento 2 theming layer is all about Javascript: jQuery scripts and dependencies are lazyloaded via RequireJS, components comply with the AMD standard so that HTML DOM and JavaScript modules are separated from one another.

KnockoutJS gives additional AngularJS-like twists to the whole, whereas UIComponents combine the whole lineup of XML layout, HTML templates, PHTML templates, AJAX calls, KnockoutJS and RequireJS to glue things together into reusable parts.

Optimize your Magento 2 themes independently

Magento 2 theming is complex but very powerful: Instead of making a mess with HTML and PHP code, the Magento layout allows you to define structures before building them, resulting in better performance (provided your environment is properly tuned).

The layout comes with pieces of XML, PHTML templating but also the underlying Block classes. In this course, we will give you the ins and outs of how theming works and how you can apply changes. The training covers XML layout and PHTML templating. On top of this, we show the best practices of theme development, like working with taskrunners and CSS preprocessors.

Magento 2 is a technical application. And compared to Magento 1 managing Magento 2 has become more technical. There is, for instance, the requirement to use the command line (CLI) more. This training focuses on the technical administration of Magento 2:

• Installing modules and themes
• copying changes to the live site
• modifying bits of the theme

However, all of this assumes that you know your way around the CLI. Hence, this training is labelled the Command-Line training. It provides you with the knowledge and tools to take control over your Magento 2 shop. Are you up for the challenge?
