In our previous post on Magento 2 Changes, I mentioned a number of changes that were introduced with the recent releases of Magento. In this post I will continue to point out some changes.
Search Changes
Enterprise is now using Elastic Search instead of SOLR search. The Magento community is very excited about the use of Elastic Search as it allows for easier implementation and greater flexibility. Previously, Magento Enterprise used Solr search. Magento Community still uses MySQL search functionality.
Also, Magento 2 has move Search Synonyms to a separate menu. Previously, Search Synonyms were located under the same menu option as the Search Terms.
Admin Product Management Grids
The new product management section allows you to do so things that previously required modules.
First, you are able to move visible product attributes around into an order that you prefer. This can be helpful for customizing the admin interface into a structure that presents attributes in a way you find most helpful.
Second, you have the ability to specify which attribute columns you would like to display. This includes various default attributes and custom ones you may have created. You can then save these custom views for use in the future.
Third, the way filters are managed has changed. Not only the appearance, but also the functionality. You will notice that you now have the ability to de-select single filtered items or reset the whole filter.
Currency Exchange Options
Magento 2 has also introduced out-of-the-box integration with some new Currency Exchange Options. Previously, Magento supported the Webservicex Currency Exchange service. Now, out-of-the-box, Magento supports Yahoo Finance Exchange and Fixer.io, both of which have APIs that return current currency exchange rates.
As noted in our previous post on Magento 2 Changes, all evolving software will experience change. But MageTraining is devoted to helping you navigate these changes and remain masters of your Magento store.
